The Master’s degree program in Mainz provides you with a great deal of freedom to customize and determine the focus of your own degree program. In specialized lectures that last for two semesters, you will be introduced to current research topics and can choose a topic for your Master’s thesis with the help of your supervisor. You will be supported by your supervisor as well as their entire work group consisting of postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates and fellow students. In addition to mathematical abilities, you will acquire soft skills such as cooperation and problem solving skills, as well as writing and presentation techniques. You will also have the opportunity to improve your English language skills.
Update to the Master’s Program in Mathematics at the JGU Mainz
The Master’s program in Mathematics at the JGU Mainz has undergone a comprehensive modernization and further internationalization.
As part of this update, students now have the option to complete the entire program fully in English.
At the same time, the program remains strongly anchored in its German-language teaching tradition:
A wide range of courses taught in German will continue to be available, allowing students to tailor their studies according to their academic focus and language preferences.
Entrance requirements
- A bachelor's degree in mathematics with at least a satisfactory final grade or an equivalent degree.
- Applicants who did not earn their university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB) at a German-language institution or complete a German-language degree program must provide proof of English proficiency at a B2 level or higher. Proof of the required qualifications can be submitted up to the end of the first semester after enrollment at JGU.
